SAT Scholarships

Free college money, mapped to your SAT.

Every major SAT-linked scholarship in one place — 15 state merit programs, 9 university full-rides, and ROTC awards. Each guide has the score that unlocks it, the award amount, and how to apply.

25 scholarships covered. The biggest mistake students make is assuming they need a 1500+ to qualify — most state programs use GPA or class rank, and several university awards start opening up at 1300–1400. Use the SAT score you have, then layer programs that stack.

State merit programs

Money your state already set aside.

State scholarships are the most under-claimed money in college finance. Most don’t require a top SAT — they use GPA or class rank — and they stack with university awards.

University full-rides & big merit awards

The named scholarships worth chasing.

These are the prestige awards — most cover full tuition or full cost-of-attendance. Most also require a strong SAT (1450+ is competitive at the top tier) plus a separate scholarship application due before regular admissions.

Service-linked scholarships.

Frequently asked

Do all scholarships require an SAT score?

No. Several major state programs — Cal Grant, Georgia HOPE, NJ STARS — use GPA, class rank, or income instead of SAT cutoffs. But for university merit awards (Morehead-Cain, USC Trustee, Vanderbilt Cornelius), a strong SAT is effectively required to be competitive even when no minimum is published.

What SAT score unlocks the most scholarship money?

1400+ opens the door to most named university awards (USC Trustee, UAB Blazer Elite, Alabama Presidential). 1500+ becomes competitive for the highest-tier full-rides like Morehead-Cain, Jefferson, and A.B. Duke. State programs are usually GPA-driven — you don’t need a top score to win them.

Can I stack state and university scholarships?

Yes — most state programs (HOPE, TOPS, Bright Futures, Cal Grant) stack with private and university merit awards. Always check each program’s rules. Federal need-based aid (Pell Grant) also stacks with both.

Are these awards still available in 2026?

Yes. Every program listed here is currently active for 2026 with awards confirmed for the 2026–27 academic year. Specific dollar amounts and SAT thresholds can change — each linked guide has the latest cycle’s details and application deadlines.

How early should I start prepping for these scholarships?

Start by 11th grade. Most named university awards (Morehead-Cain, Jefferson, A.B. Duke) require nominations or applications in the fall of senior year, with priority deadlines as early as October. State programs are usually applied through FAFSA in winter senior year.
